Wiper Wipeouts: Tesla recalls 11,000 Cybertrucks over faulty windshield wipers and loose trim

Toronto, Ontario — On Tuesday, Tesla issued recalls for its Cybertruck electric pickup truck to fix issues related to faulty windshield wipers and trim in the truck bed that may come loose.

The issue is specifically related to the fact that “the front windshield wiper motor controller may stop functioning due to electrical overstress to the gate driver component,” according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) filing.

A separate NHTSA filing further shows that Tesla will also be repairing an issue in which a piece of trim in the Cybertruck’s trunk bed “may not have been installed according to specification” and could potentially come loose.

Both recalls affect more than 11,000 Cybertrucks in North America. Moreover, in both instances, concerns exist over the possibility of loose parts coming off while driving, increasing the risk of a collision.

In both cases, drivers with affected vehicles will be notified via a letter by August 18th and the issues will be resolved for free by an appropriate dealer.
