Quebec City, Quebec — According to recent reports, Quebec is now considering pushing back its 2035 electric vehicle deadline in response to the United States recent tariff threats.
Notably, in a recent news scrum that took place at the National Assembly last Wednesday, Environmental Minister Benoit Charette commented that he would be reviewing Quebec’s regulations regarding the banning of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035 starting in 2026.
Additionally, as originally highlighted by CTV News, Québec Solidaire (QS) transport spokesperson, Etienne Grandmont further suggested that Quebec should begin considering other markets, such as China, to ensure that the 2035 deadline is met on time.
However, in response to this suggestion, the Parti Québécois stressed that the decision is ‘premature’ and that the province should instead first focus on building desire for electric vehicles internally.
