Ottawa, Canada — New data from Statistics Canada indicates that battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) now account for 1.3 percent of all vehicles registered in Canada as of 2023.
When looking at specific data, this means that in 2023, approximately 329,402 BEVs were on the road. Within this, the majority (327,723) are light-duty passenger vehicles.
Compared to 2022 data, 2023 is a slight increase with Statistics Canada noting that BEVs accounted for 0.9 percent of all registrations.
From a regional perspective, every province and territory in Canada—except for Nunavut—recorded an increase in BEV registrations between 2022 and 2023.
And, as with previous statistical records, Quebec leads with 127,066 BEVs registered, making up 2.1 percent of regional registrations.
Comparatively, Ontario saw 83,805 BEV units registered, or one percent of all registrations.
