Toronto, Ontario — Chevrolet’s Silverado EV has set a new world record for distance travelled on a single charge – cruising more than 1,700 km under the guidance of General Motors engineers.
The team drove a 2024 Silverado EV RST more than 1,705 km, far surpassing the model’s estimated range of 724 km. The feat was accomplished on public roads near Detroit using a stock vehicle, with no hardware or software changes.
Engineers followed strict driving parameters to achieve the milestone, maintaining speeds between 32 and 40 km/hour. They also made a series of temporary adjustments to reduce drag, including removing the spare tire, installing a tonneau cover, turning off climate control and increasing tire pressure.
The drive took place over seven days, with a team of about 23 engineers rotating in one-hour shifts. The goal, according to General Motors, was to explore the limits of current battery capabilities – not to suggest realistic expectations for daily driving.
The Silverado EV used in the drive was equipped with a 200 kilowatt-hour battery. While its official maximum range remains 724 km under standard conditions, the record-breaking run demonstrates what is possible under carefully controlled circumstances.
General Motors said the data gathered will support future vehicle development, particularly in areas of battery efficiency and software calibration.
