Nanaimo, British Columbia — Vietnamese automaker VinFast said last week that its first shipment of VF 8 electric SUVs has arrived on Canadian shores.
Approximately 780 units arrived at port in Nainamo, B.C. last week. Deliveries to customers will begin in June, said the automaker.
The vehicles delivered to Nanaimo’s port are part of the OEM’s initial shipment to North America; the vessel left Vietnam on April 16 and approx. 1,100 units were unloaded in California for the U.S. market on May 12.
“VinFast has officially received all the necessary certifications to sell cars in Canada and, as planned, the first VF 8 vehicles will be delivered to customers from June 2023 onwards,” wrote VinFast in a press release.
Part of VINFast’s strategy in the Canadian market is its offering of a 10-year or 200,000-kilometre comprehensive warranty, along with its 10-year battery warranty, regardless of mileage. A charging plan is also included in the vehicle purchase price; customers can either choose three years of fast charging, or an in-home charging system.
In early May, VinFast announced it had partnered with Certified Collision Care to manage the OEM’s Certified Collision Repair program in Canada.
VinFast has eight Canadian retail locations: four in the Greater Toronto area; one in Laval, Que., and three in British Columbia.
