Toronto, Ontario — This week, Tesla reaps rewards in Ottawa; ElectraMeccanica drops a new version of its three-wheeled SOLO EV and I-CAR’s U.S. branch unveils some helpful electric vehicle guidance.
Tesla’s friends in Ottawa
The Canadian subsidiary of Tesla Motors was reimbursed over $125 million in federal green subsidies over the last two years, according to data from Transport Canada
Reports published by Ottawa business journal Blacklock Reporter last Thursday state the car maker, owned by American billionaire Elon Musk, received $118.6 million from Ottawa in electric vehicle rebates.
That’s on top of an already-paid-nearly $6 million paid to Tesla Motors Canada by the Dept. of Natural Resources to install 150+ charging stations in Western Canada.
Launched in 2019, the federal government’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Program (iZEV) offers up to $5,000 in rebates, payable to dealerships, for purchasing new eligible electric vehicles under $55,000.
Tricycle Cargo
During this year’s ACT Expo in Long Beach, California, ElectraMeccanica debuted a “Cargo” version of its flagship three-wheeled EV, the SOLO.
The new version, the SOLO Cargo EV, was designed with an expanded cargo box specifically for light commercial fleets.
ElectraMeccanica Vehicles is a B.C.-based publicly traded EV designer and manufacturer traded on the Nasdaq. ElectraMeccanica was founded in 2015, but its predecessor Intermeccanica has been building high-end specialty cars for over 61 years.
I-CAR offers assistance
I-CAR’s U.S. branch has released a comprehensive best practice guide for high-voltage disconnecting procedures.
Jeff Peevy, I-CAR U.S. Vice President, Technical Products, Programs and Services explained that the new document is designed to be used alongside OEM procedures.
The material is available without charge. The documents within the best practice include:
- I-CAR Best Practice – HV Disconnecting Procedure, which is used to safely disable and test the vehicle.
- I-CAR Best Practice – HV Safety Protocol, which is a form that is used to document the inspections and tests.
- I-CAR Best Practice – HV Disconnecting Procedure Status Cards, which are printable and used to identify the current status of the HV vehicle.
