EV/AV Report: July 19, 2021

Toronto, Ontario — Canada can be expecting more charging stations by 2025, while a British startup company designed a Batmobile look-alike. Meanwhile, Elon Musk doesn’t care what any naysayers think about his new passion project.

Charging Canada

Canada aims to have 500 fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers by 2025.

Electrify Canada, an EV charging network, plans to have the chargers in the following locations: British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

There will also be an Electrify Canada route for travellers that begins in Victoria, B.C. and Halifax, Nova Scotia so people with EVs can know where to charge up.

Giovanni Palazzo, the president and CEO of Electrify America, says that the EV market is growing and there is a need for more charging stations to meet the buyers needs.

“We have decided to double our current charging infrastructure in North America over the next four years to help meet the need for the rapid growth expected of electric vehicles by virtually all the auto manufacturers, and to help make EV adoption more accessible and attractive than ever,” said Palazzo.

‘Holy smokes Batman!’

A British-based startup just launched their first electric track car and it looks like someone is a fan of the Batman franchise.

The new electric vehicle by McMurtry Speirling looks like the Batmobile and it was first premiered at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed. McMurtry says that they are going down the lane that “uninhibited technical evolution would have taken from the golden age of racing to shape the motorsport of today.” This means that McMurtry is trying to break down the barriers that current racing series vehicles conform to and create something completely innovative and one-of-a-kind.

The car can go from 0 to 189 mph in just 9 seconds and has a power-to-weight ratio of 1 hp per kg. The Batmobile look alike isn’t able to be driven on the roads.

Cybertruck could be outta luck

Elon Musk admits that one of his new endeavours could be a massive failure, and he doesn’t care.

Just last week The Truth About Cars released an opinion piece stating that “Tesla’s Cybertruck will be Company’s First Flop,” and Musk responded to the article in a statement on Twitter.

“There is always some chance that Cybertruck will flop because it is so unlike anything else. I don’t care. I love it so much even if others don’t. Other trucks look like copies of the same thing, but Cybertruck looks like it was made by aliens from the future.”

The Cybertruck is an EV that is meant to have sports car performance but has all the utilities of a truck. With its unique design, Tim Healey who wrote the opinion piece says that along with the other problems he predicts for the Cybertruck, he’s just not a fan of its look.

“It looks like a one-off Hot Wheels toy come to life. You know the kind — those weird little toy cars that looked as if they’d be impossible to produce.”
