Double Dues: Government of Saskatchewan plans to double road fees for electric vehicles

Regina, Saskatchewan — The Government of Saskatchewan has announced that it will be doubling the cost of road-use fees for electric vehicles in the province as of June 1, 2025.

Notably, the provincial government says that it will be increasing road-use fees costs for electric vehicles from $150 to $300 per vehicle.

The increase in road-use fees will reportedly go towards fixing roads in the province.

The provincial government noted that it wants to ensure that EV owners are contributing a comparable amount to those with gas-powered vehicles who currently pay for road maintenance through Saskatchewan’s provincial gas tax.

The increased surcharge will be collected by Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI).
