Toronto, Ontario — An Ontario couple says their electric vehicle’s (EV) ability to hold its charge is “nowhere near what was advertised,” claiming that the vehicle only holds 60 percent of the advertised range.
In an interview with CTV News Toronto, Jack Fleming, an Etobicoke, Ont. resident said that his $72,000 Volvo C40 Recharge was advertised as 364 km on a full charge, but only gets 225km per charge.
Volvo Canada has rebuffed Fleming’s claims, with a statement provided to CTV News Toronto indicating that it stands behind the advertised range of its vehicles.
“We stand behind the quality and advertised ranges of our Recharge vehicles,” said Lucas Dias corporate communications manager at Volvo Car Canada, representative.
“As with all cars powered by an electric battery, the actual range will vary for many reasons,” said Dias.
The Flemings say they are concerned about the expenses for his wife’s travel expenses to Barrie, with the 100-kilometre commute likely requiring the use of a combustion-engine vehicle, paying additional charging costs, or increasing the risk of running out of charge before getting home.
