Toronto, Ontario — In its first-ever global survey of the experiences of electric vehicle (EV) users, the Global EV Drivers Alliance (GEVA) indicates that 92 percent of zero-emission vehicle owners would not switch back to an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.
The study received responses from over 23,000 EV drivers across 18 different countries and further reveals that only one percent of respondents indicate they will return to a petrol or diesel vehicle, with four percent instead saying they would opt for a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) if they had to replace their car tomorrow.
The main reasons for EV owners to opt for a zero-emission vehicle include lower operating costs, environmental friendliness and an interest in new technology.
Additionally, the majority of respondents also claim to not have experienced any issues with their EVs.
When looking at Canada’s respondents specifically, Canadian EV drivers agreed that it takes more planning to take an EV on a long trip when compared to a diesel or gasoline vehicle; but were instead neutral on the opinion of experiencing range anxiety.
In response to the overall satisfaction with EVs, Joel Levin, chair of GEVA and director of Plug In America commented that “this is a remarkably high number and the results confirm that drivers love the EV experience and EVs are here to stay.”
“These results confirm that EV drivers are highly satisfied with their choice and that reports of declining EV popularity are greatly exaggerated,” concluded Petter Haugneland, assistant secretary general of the Norwegian EV Association.
