Fisker Falls Back: Fisker will now cover the cost of recall repairs after telling customers to pay for labour costs

Toronto, Ontario — Electric vehicle (EV) automaker, Fisker has reportedly changed a post on its website to say that it will still cover the cost of repairs for outstanding vehicle recalls after previously stating that owners of its Ocean EV would have to pay for any “labour costs” themselves.

The Fisker Ocean currently has five outstanding recalls with two—one for the vehicle’s door handles and another for its water pump—requiring physical inspections and repairs.

A spokesperson for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) originally told Business Insider that the agency is “working to ensure vehicle owners receive recall remedies without charge, as required by federal law.” Moreover, the agency further affirmed that automakers are legally required to provide safety recall repairs free of charge for vehicles less than 15 years old.

In the previous recall FAQ posted to Fisker’s website, the bankrupt EV automaker stated that due to its “current financial situation,” it could only cover the cost of the necessary parts for those recalls, not the repairs themselves.”

While the company apologized for “any inconvenience this may cause,” on Wednesday, this recall FAQ had been updated to state that Fisker will “provide the necessary parts (including the labour) at no costs” to Ocean owners.
