Split Civic: Honda to build Civic Hybrid sedan in Ont., beginning spring 2024

Toronto, Ontario — Honda has announced it will begin production of a new Civic Hybrid sedan in spring 2024 at its plant in Alliston, Ontario.

The Ontario site will serve as the lead North American plant for Civic Hybrid production, while the hatchback version will be manufactured at the Indiana Auto Plant (IAP) in Greensburg, Indiana. Both plants already produce the Honda CR-V Hybrid.

Honda says its Civic Hybrid is significant in its electrification strategy, which involves equipping core models with hybrid-electric systems. In 2023, over 35 percent of CR-V and Accord sales were hybrid-electric trims, while nearly 20 percent of Honda’s total sales in Canada were electrified models.

The 2025 Civic Hybrid will be powered by a version of the award-winning Honda two-motor hybrid-electric system.

Honda expects the Civic Hybrid to account for more than 40 percent of overall Civic sales in North America.

Honda of Canada Manufacturing previously announced a $1.38 billion investment over six years to upgrade its plants, implement innovative technologies, and support vehicle research and development programs in line with Honda’s global electrification and carbon neutrality goals.
