Charged Up in Calgary: EV Repair Tour stops at Fix Network’s brand new training centre

Calgary, Alberta — Industry stakeholders from Calgary got a sneak peek at the Fix Network Calgary Training Centre yesterday as the Collision Repair mag EV Repair Tour, supported by Fix Network, made its fourth stop in Calgary, Alberta.

More than 100 industry reps were on site at the 15,000 sq. ft. facility, which will soon provide training to the local market.

“It’s incredible to have the industry witness this sneak peek of our Calgary Training Centre,” said Jeff Francis of Fix Network. “And the fact we’ve all come together as an industry—it’s not about names or brands today. We’re all part of the Canadian collision repair industry and we all have a common goal—to fix these cars safely and properly.”

The first speaker on the stage was EV expert David Giles, who presented on the introduction of EVs in your collision centres.

Next was Cecile Bukmeier, the head of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) autobody program took the mic next to discuss her experience training young people for the future of the automotive industry.

Following a lunch sponsored by our friends at BASF, Laura Whittle of Assured Performance Network/Certified Collision Care spoke about the importance of OEM procedures and following guidelines to a tee when working on all vehicles, but especially these new high voltage systems.

Ben Hart, autobody instructor from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) broke down some information from the day to show attendees how EVs are different than internal combustion vehicles.

All topics were met with much praise from the crowd.

“Our team had to come—these conversations need to happen,” said Wayne Popow of Popow Auto Repair, who also tows hybrids and zero-emissions vehicles. “These conversations need to happen, and our questions need to be answered.”
