Toronto, Ontario — With the Neue Klasse will come new glass, says BMW, as the German automaker announced Wednesday that the first model in its upcoming new lineup will feature “Panoramic Vision” windshields across the board.
Named for a wave of pioneering BMW models debuted in the 1960’s, the new Neue Klasse “will set new standards in digitalisation, sustainability and design for electric cars,” and—for its first offering—provide drivers with a full windshield heads-up-display.
According to a member of BMW’s development board, Frank Weber, “The windscreen becomes a single large display with our new BMW Panoramic Vision, opening up completely new possibilities for the design of our vehicles.
“Whether the driver decides themselves which information they want to display in their own field of vision, or that all occupants can see the entire content. The revolutionary projection and the significantly more clearly structured cockpit give an impressive new feeling of space and driving. We are taking our proven ‘eyes on the road—hands on the wheel’ slogan to a new level.”
Due to the size of the windshield, the backlighting of the Panoramic Vision display is designed so that no matter whether you are in the driver’s seat or in the back row, dashboard information is displayed at readable lighting and contrast levels, according to BMW.
The company plans to unveil more details about the Neue Klasse and its associated technologies at the upcoming IAA Mobility 2023 conference in Munich, Germany in September.
