Detroit, Michigan — Ford has halted production on Lightning F-150 electric pickup trucks after a unit caught fire in a company holding lot earlier this month.
The OEM is reportedly holding both production and shipping of Lightning units while it investigates the issue. Sales are still open, and no action has been taken on units that have already been delivered as Ford says it is “not aware of any incidents of this issue in the field.”
The battery-related root cause was found in a pre-delivery quality check, said a Ford spokesperson. The company expects its investigation to conclude by the end of next week.
Ford did not specify whether the fire was caused by an issue in battery production or a manufacturing/assembly issue.
